I’m happy to announce that the new and improved “Jeff Willet Training Journal” is now available.

I improved upon the last version by adding 20% more pages for logging your workouts as well as a more durable gold foiled stamped cover for greater longevity.

The journals design is based on exactly how I logged my workouts over the years. I wish I had created this back when I was competing as it is way more convenient than the old notebook I had to use.

I am very happy with how this new journal turned out and think you will be too!

Believe. Achieve.

  1. Hi Jeff you know what I think it'd be a great idea if you launched gym/training software. In addition to logging workouts in a database and tracking your progress, it would also have numerous random 'multimedia' tidbits – some of which could be unlocked each time you complete a day's training – thereby providing the motivation to just 'go workout'. The software can be on your iphone and even sync to your PC if needed… 🙂

Any such plans you have entertained?

That is a good idea. I've not investigated anything like that but the idea certainly has merit.

Change of subject but I wanted to ask for your opinion on something. In Max-OT, they say that squats are the most effective leg exercise, but I feel that I get more of a workout doing leg press. I am going heavy on squats and staying in the 4-6 rep range and doing it to positive failure. What's your opinion on that.

I feel squats are superior. Squats force you to balance the weight and untilize your core making it a fantastic all around exercise.

  5. I'll chip in with my 2 cents worth that I learnt over the years:

    * leg presses limit your movement to a single plane unlike free form squats which produces a more natural bio mechanical movement.

    * leg presses do not recruit additional 'stabilizer' muscles that are required to keep you stable like the squats do. Infact, squats give your abs a pretty good workout.

    * squats would be more anabolic, as they literally involve every muscle in your body hence the metabolic pay off would be far superior.

    * A single over all body exercise as well. Done right, they improve your balance, posture, bone density (prevent osteoporosis), increase knee strength – etc.

    * Finally, squats are a real world movement – you squat to pick up stuff, etc. Hence regular squatting would reduce your chances of injuries or slipping in older years or if you did, reduce your chances of serious injury.

There are so many arguments for squats. Most people shy away from them because it is intimidating I guess but the pay off for mastering this exercise is well worth it.

    Right Jeff? 🙂
