Jeff Willet – 3 Time National Champion and IFBB Pro Bodybuilder
I had always admired muscular physiques as I was growing up. When I was younger people would ask me if I worked out even though I had never touched a weight. It wasn't until I was sixteen that I would start building my own physique.
At the encouragement of my brother I joined my first gym. He felt that I had good genetic potential for the sport and I started working out with him. I absolutely fell in love. I loved the way it felt and most of all I loved the possibilities that lay ahead. The possibility of building a massive muscular physique, just like the ones I had always looked up to. From that moment on I dreamed of being a champion.
I went to my first bodybuilding show with my dad to watch a couple of friends and I was completely hooked. I knew at that moment, with every fiber of my being that I wanted to become a champion bodybuilder.
I competed in my first show in 1991 after one year of training. It was the Novice Michigan Bodybuilding Championships, Teen Division. I won the 18 and under division as well as the Over All Teen Title. If I wasn't hooked before, I certainly was after that.
I went on to have a successful Teenage career ending it in 1993 with the Over All title of Teen Mr. Michigan and a 5th place finish in the Light Heavy Weight Division at the N.P.C. Teen Nationals in North Carolina.
As I continued to compete in the Men's divisions I furthered my education in the field that I so loved. I went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude from Adrian College with a B.A. degree in Exercise Science and in Business Administration. I felt that a continuing education would help to further my competitive goals and it did.
My contest highlights include 3 national titles and a 4th place finish in the highly contested NPC USA Championships. I also had the honor of being on 3 United States bodybuilding teams. In August of 2003 I achieved my ultimate bodybuilding goal of earning IFBB professional status by winning the overall NPC Team Universe Championship. I achieved all this without the use of steroids. I am a lifetime steroid free athlete.
My next set of goals has lead me back to Michigan. I now own and operate Jeff Willet’s Powerhouse Gym located in Adrian, Michigan. The gym opened December 5, 2004. In addition to owning and operating the gym I continue to develop products including a series of DVD's, eBooks and consultation services designed to help people maximize their fitness potential. My muscle building techniques have expanded beyond bodybuilding and into the sports world as I have become a consultant to the NFL advising on weight training, nutrition and supplementation.
I could not have come this far without the support of my family and friends. I owe a huge thanks to my mom and dad for their years of unending support and love. I have also been blessed with great friends who have followed me throughout my whole career. It is important to surround yourself with positive, supportive people for they will make your job easier when times are tough.

I Believe in the Max-OT (Maximum Overload Training) principles that I learned from Paul Delia, owner of AST Sports Science. Max-OT is a low volume, high intensity approach to stimulate muscle growth. I use basic free weight movements with heavy weight and low reps. I stay in a 4 to 6 rep range on my movements. If I can get more than 6 reps, the weight is too light. I also believe in a low number of total sets per body part and that each body part should be worked only once per week. This is consistent with the Max-OT philosophy in that recovery is a key element in the muscle growth equation. To learn more about Max-OT Training check out my Training DVDs.Nutrition
Your workouts are merely the stimulus and it is what you do when you leave the gym that will directly impact the degree of your results. I believe that the cornerstone of a good nutritional plan is quality protein. Consistently supplying yourself with protein every 2 to 2.5 hours keeps your body in an environment that is conducive to muscular growth. I emphasize protein because I feel that it is the key ingredient. Protein builds muscle. A person who is training intensely will have a higher protein requirement than a sedentary individual. Post-workout nutrition is essential for maximizing gains. I follow the post-workout nutritional plan outlined by AST Sports Science Director of Research Paul Cribb.
